@tetheredtoelena - the glorified babysitter

Hayley has never really known what it’s like to have a family. She was kicked out of her adopted family’s home when she was thirteen when she discovered what she was. After that bounced around from place to place never really knowing what she was or where she belonged. Meeting Tyler was the first time she had a real friend, and a group that she could call a pack. And she had destroyed all of that in order to gain answers about her family.

That had been months ago, now here she was pregnant with the child of an Original. A fact that shouldn’t be possible. Yet here she was. In the home and safety of the Mikaelson home and under somebody’s protective watch at all times. Jeremy seemed to be the newest one tasked with her protection when Elijah, Rebekah, or Klaus wasn’t around to do so. An interesting choice but she wasn’t going to argue with her newfound family.

“You know you don’t have to watch over me. I won’t tell if you want to go off and do something else.” It would give Hayley some of her own freedom to do what she wanted without somebody breathing down her neck. Picking up an apple she sits down on the couch and takes a bite out of it as she kicks up her feet. “Could you turn on the fan? It’s a little hot in here.”

It didn’t exactly surprise him that Hayley would try to persuade him away from his post. If Jeremy were in her shoes, he’d have at least a half dozen escape attempts under his belt. Truthfully, she was being rather polite about the whole thing, given everything that had happened. From where he stood, it was impossible to tell if the Mikaelsons’ concern was actually for the she-wolf– or just for the being she carried inside her.

He watches her settle down on the couch, and muses to himself whether this will be as boring as the kind of desk job his dad had wanted for him– or if she’s about to make it interesting. With a sigh, he uncrosses his arms and steps away from the door frame he’d been lounging in. A single finger flicks the ceiling fan to life.

“I’d say I’m sticking around because I don’t want Klaus to rip my heart out, but these days I hear Elijah would probably beat him to the punch.” There’s a sputter of a scoff as he rounds the room, eyes looking over each window before he finally perches himself on the arm of a nearby armchair. “Listen, I’m not here to micromanage you; we’re on the same team. I’m just–…” Jeremy pauses, his lips twisting as he looks for the right words. “–making sure you’re both okay. There’s plenty of people in this city who would be happy to see something happen to that baby.”
