Asher doesn’t blame Joshua for how he feels. They had become so much more than when they first met. That had been meaningless, was supposed to stay meaningless. But then attachments grew and Asher thought of Joshua as more. He even had promised to come back home to him. But the other left and… And there was something there now. A wall between them that felt impossible to climb. Asher wanted to though, it made things worth it when he saw that small smile. He felt to blame sometimes. That it was somehow his fault with what happened to his lover. He knew that any recoil he had from him for a while was his fault. Joshua was never meant to see him out of control.

“You didn’t have to,” he replied. His hand comes up and cups his face, thumb gently running over the other’s cheek. Asher still felt like he fucked up with the rescue. He should have stayed in control and not killed a ton of people. But he had and Joshua had seen his crimson eyes and look that was different from every vampire around the world. “I know… That’s partically my doing.” He stepped close to the other finally, still scared he would have a lash out. Or worse, Asher would suddenly lose control. He paused at his question, then shook his head. “No. There is no value, aside from their blood supply. But I might be able to swing that in my favor.”

His eyes shut firmly with the gesture, a bit more obvious than he’d like it to be. He knows the guilt Asher carries for it all, and yet he cannot find it in himself to ease that burden. At the very least, though, he refuses to add to it. He’s convinced that his silence saves the vampire. “A reaction was drawn out of you– you can hardly be blamed for reacting the way they had to have known you would.”

The physical distance cut between them, Joshua reaches up a hand to wrap his fingers around his lover’s touch. He doesn’t pull the male’s hand away, per se, but the weight of his own grip unconsciously creates a slight separation between their flesh. “It’s not safe anymore,” his gaze finally returns to the other’s face. “You know that, I know. – I think you need to get out, Ash. You and Julia…” A lump forms in his throat as he forces out her name. Above anything, he regrets that any of this torturous life has marred her innocence. “They will retaliate– maybe not today; maybe not for weeks. But they won’t let that loss of life go unanswered. And if she ends up in the crossfire–?”
