allison has to resist the urge to tell him off — what does he think, she’s new at this? which one of them leads an army again? and though she does look over her shoulder so she can roll her eyes at him, she’s interrupted by the sound of a branch cracking… far too close for comfort. she holds her breath and presses her body against jeremy’s, trying to take up as little space as possible. in one hand, she holds her menacingly long, curved dagger that her father gifted to her when she completed her training. but, with her free hand, she reaches out for jeremy’s, holding onto it like a lifeline. she looks over her shoulder at him once again, this time to mouth i love you to him because she can see the wolf’s shadow in front of this, and they weren’t gonna be able to run their way out of this. they were gonna have to fight.

she steels herself and twirls around jeremy so she can come up behind the wolf. but when she sees him, she almost freezes in her tracks. she’s never seen a wolf like that before. standing on two hind legs it has to be at least seven feet tall, but covered with fur, and sporting unusually long teeth from his slobbery snout. his arms are like wolf legs, with paws as big as her own head and claws bigger than her hand. but she shakes her surprise off quickly. there’s no room to freeze in this business.

her feet are more silent than the wolf’s, she’s more used to walking in the forest without being heard. she knows her boyfriend’s going to kill her for this, but she can’t just let that thing live. forgive me, baby. the huntress takes a running start, and leaps onto the monster’s back. she barely gives it time to react before her sharp dagger works its way through his neck, and with as much strength that she can muster, she severs its head from it’s body.

she’s left covered in blood, but alive. allison looks at jeremy, and she could honestly kiss him, but there’d be plenty of time for that later. right now, she’s still in lead huntress mode.   we can’t leave it here — dad’ll want to study… whatever it is. but we need to get out of here quickly, there might be more.   there has to be more. she can feel it in her blood. but she doesn’t want to tell him that.   it’s up to you. do we leave it and risk it being gone when we come back, or do we try to take it with us and risk getting caught by others? ’  she doesn’t know why she’s asking, she already knows his answer. but ever since that major fuck up when she returned to mystic falls having died, she wants him to know she trusts him, trusts his judgement about things when it comes to hunting. so she’s been slowly giving him more responsibility. not too much to look like she’s favouring him ( the others would never let her live down giving her boyfriend preference ), but enough to let him know she trusts him.

she knows what she would do, but she doesn’t want their entire relationship to be her bossing him around. only when necessary should that happen. besides, he’s a good hunter. no, that’s not nearly giving him enough credit. jeremy gilbert is a great hunter. it’s in his blood, just like hers. and she knows she can take him for granted when they’re in the field sometimes, and she’s been trying like hell to fix that. like now, for example.
